Tips: Avoiding debt while you hit the tables

You don’t have to go in debt up to your elbows to play a round of poker or hit the slot machines for a little while. However, you do have to know exactly how much money you can afford to gamble. For example, if you are planning your first vacation to a gambling state, you should sit down and budget out how much you can safely throw away. You shouldn’t include credit cards or borrowing as this will only leave you in a mess that you will be paying for a long time.

No credit cards for gambling means no credit cards. You can’t fool your debt load by paying for dinner with the credit card and then using the dinner money for playing the slots. The only person you are fooling is yourself. You are still ultimately paying for your slot machine time with your credit card. Set your budget for your trip and don’t stray in any way simply to free up more money for the tables.

If you are going to be gambling online, make your deposit but don’t leave your account open for easy deposits. Make a onetime deposit and make sure you aren’t using a credit card for the deposit. You don’t want to pay interest on your gambling money. Read more

Not the savior

There is a lot of talk going around all over the Internet, but notably not so much in the broadcast media that there will soon be legalized online gambling in the United States. This idea has many states seeing dollar signs as they dream of higher revenues in the form of taxes. Others are not so quick to jump on the bandwagon. They feel that online gaming will only perpetuate addictions and further erode families.

They are just sending their money out of the country, money that should and could be used here if it weren’t for the over-bearing regulations and laws that some consider being controlling and/or intrusive.

Since people are wagering every day then maybe the lawmakers are on to something. Most people who refrain from this activity don’t do so because it is illegal. On the contrary, they keep their money away from the casinos because they either don’t like it or have absolutely no desire to play. This could leave people to believe that there may not be as big of a jump in the numbers of players as it seems there would be. If this is the case then there would be no need to worry about more families falling apart or more addictions coming along. Read more
